Feb02 My oldest dgahetur, now 19 was diagnosed ADD when she was in 4th grade. She was never hyper or anything like that. She could sit in front of a Nintendo game for hours without losing interest, but when she came home from school it would take her hours and hours to get hoework done.I was against putting her on Ritalin. I was a little familiar with speed and I knew what it could do to a person. I asked why she was able to sit in front of a video game but not in front of a teacher and the answer was, ADD is about low interest activities. My response to that was I guess the teacher's not doing her job!I finally relented and we put her on Ritalin and it was like night and day! She went from almost failing the 4th grade to honor roll. She went from the description I gave before coming home from school, to coming home without homework because she had finished it all in school! We would only give her the meds for school. I never gave it to her during the summer or on weekends. It still bothered me, she would get that vacant, blank look in her eyes while on the meds sometimes.Anyway, not sure if this will help at all. Just thought I'd let you know how my experience went. I have heard that there are better meds out there these days. Good luck! |
