DescriptionCharlie, Kitty, Max and Liza are first cousins and lifelong best friends. Charlie is an aspiring barrister, Kitty is expected to get married, Max is far too rich and beautiful for his own good and ambitious Liza wants to become a singer. They belong to the vast St. Clair clan, which gathers each summer for a sumptuous party given by a favourite relative, Uncle Hector. Here, the judges and QCs brush shoulders with the black sheep and eccentrics. It is l974, a time of economic uncertainty, and trouble threatens the family, too. Max's parents are suffering a vicious and very public split-up and this will become the catalyst for a whole series of events that will disrupt the cousins' formerly close relationship and provoke two secret love affairs, one of which seems just like incest. The St Clairs don't accept weakness of any sort. However, when Kitty's father makes a monumentally foolish business decision and Charlie works himself into a nervous breakdown, they have to decide how to react. Unknown to the rest of them, Uncle Hector and his brother, Lionel, are party to a tragic secret and, for the first time in half a century, it threatens to tumble out of the cupboard.
